When it comes to iconic wines from New Zealand, Sauvignon Blanc definitely comes to mind.
It would now appear that Hawke’s Bay is blazing a trail that looks set to rival the red wines of Bordeaux.
In a recent article in the London Telegraph, journalist Jonathan Ray shares his experiences during a special blind wine tasting event in London, hosted by Rod Easthope, a winemaker of Craggy Range in New Zealand.
The critics were asked to assess each unmarked wine and rank them accordingly. Much to the surprise of the critics, some of the most expensively priced Bordeaux wines were bested by the more modestly priced wines from New Zealand. Some of the most noted wineries that ranked above their Bordeaux counterparts included Craggy Range, Sacred Hill and Newton Forrest.
